There are certain instances when removing an asbestos containing material can result in a more decorative finish if your contractor is sensitive to what your overall objective is.

If your planning a home improvement, a simple home renovation, a demolition of a residence or commercial property for future development in Colorado. Asbestos inspection and testing of the suspect asbestos containing materials that will be impacted is required.
|
Many home owners and renovation contractors are unaware that "home improvement" projects may impact suspect
asbestos containing materials, and that it is illegal to improperly disturb asbestos containing materials. A certified
asbestos removal contractor (General Abatement Contractor) must remove asbestos containing materials that are
regulated or may become regulated prior to disturbance by renovation or demolition activities. We have seen many
violations of the regulatory requirement result in project delays and monetary penalties. Whether your planning a home
improvement by removing the 70's "popcorn" type ceiling texture, a kitchen or bath remodel, change in design and
demolition of existing walls, replacement of an old furnace or boiler, replacing the old exterior siding, or even
demolishing an existing structure, have your project inspected by a licensed Colorado Certified Asbestos Building
Inspector before you begin.
Some asbestos products used in the construction industry that may be encountered in a home
improvement project are, but not limited to;
Sheetrock taping, drywall or plaster mud, ceiling and wall texture coatings, vinyl floor tiles, floor sheeting,
adhesives and ceiling tiles, heat duct wrap or seam tape, plasters and stucco's, acoustical ceilings, putty,
fireproofing or insulation, roofing tars and felts, exterior shingles or siding "transite" panels, counter-tops,
pipe insulation, caulk, gaskets, low density insulation board , thermal and chemical insulation (i.e., fire
rated doors, limpet spray, lagging and gaskets), asbestos-cement sheets and pipes for construction,
casing for water and electrical/telecommunication services.
In making preparations to begin your Home improvement project, consider the timing of the required asbestos removal notification process. If your
project is one in which an asbestos permit is required, in most circumstances there is a waiting period for the processing of your projects required
permit. For your convenience here are some of the required forms for your review.
